Founder’s Story of LSA’s Run Home – Ramaswamy Ranganathan
When I lace up my running shoes, I’m not just preparing for another workout. I’m running for my daughter, Sitara—and for hundreds of adults like her who deserve a safe, supportive home.

My name is Ranga, and I’ve been a proud Board member of Life Services Alternatives (LSA) since January 2020. I’ve been running consistently for more than 35 years, participating in marathon races since 1995, and I’ve been part of the running group OmRun since it began in 2010.
The main goal of OmRun has always been to engage non-runners through a training program that prepares them to complete half and full marathons. We’ve been successful in holding our own races since 2010, and as part of this training program, I’ve been blessed to coach and mentor several runners.
Since joining the LSA Board, I’ve connected my passion for running with my commitment to supporting the I/DD community. In 2020, I invited my fellow OmRunners to run and raise funds for LSA—especially during the pandemic, when most live races were canceled.
That year, the group collectively put in about 10,000 miles and raised more than $75,000 for LSA. The following year, we launched the first official Run Home event.

My daughter Sitara lives in LSA’s Cambrian home with four other wonderful women. LSA is very near and dear to my heart because it has provided her with a forever home where she can live as independently as possible and enjoy a full life.
When my wife and I were first exploring residential care homes in the Bay Area, we visited several. Many were great, but none were the right fit for Sitara—until we found LSA. From the moment we toured the house, we knew: “It felt good. It felt right.”
LSA homes are thoughtfully chosen and renovated to meet the needs of residents, with each person having their own bedroom. Renovations often make spaces more open and accessible, ensuring residents can move about their homes with ease. Once ready, the homes are furnished with everything needed to create a welcoming environment.
And most importantly, LSA’s dedicated staff—15–20 care providers per home—are there 24/7, offering the best care while fostering dignity, inclusion, and community.

What began as a virtual challenge is now an annual tradition. This year, Run Home 2025 will be held Saturday, September 6 at Vasona Lake County Park in Los Gatos. We’ll offer 5K and 10K run/walk options, plus a virtual race for those who can’t join in person.
Run Home is about more than logging miles—it’s about making a difference. Every registration and every dollar raised supports LSA’s mission to provide high-quality, community-based homes for adults with developmental disabilities.
This community is close to my heart, and I’m asking for your help. Whether you run, walk, donate, or share our story, you’ll be helping more adults like Sitara live the best possible lives.
